The Book of Sirach

Words of Wisdom from the book of Sirach (6:6; 8:9; 11:2-3&8; 20:6; 19:17):

Let your acquaintances be many,
but one in a thousand your confidant.

Reject not the tradition of old men
which they have learned from their fathers;
From it you will obtain the knowledge
how to answer in time of need.

Praise not a man for his looks;
despise not a man for his appearance.
Least is the bee among the winged things,
but she reaps the choicest of all the harvests.

Before hearing, answer not,
and interrupt no one in the middle of his speech.

A wise man is silent till the right time comes,
but a boasting fool ignores the proper time.

All wisdom is fear of the LORD;
perfect wisdom is fulfillment of the law.
