Anything done for anything but His glory: can it satisfy the soul?

Yesterday I was cruising the piano keys like a Miami driver on Florida Highways, that is, while playing the songs I already know well. However, there are several songs that I am still learning and memorizing. Those I had to play over, and over, and over again. I looked more like a New York City driver stuck in heavy traffic. I was so sick of playing them after the 2nd and 3rd times around. Later I thought over how I can complete tedious tasks such as that with joy, instead of with the feelings of boredom and frustration. My only conclusion is that I must act with the purpose of pleasing the LORD, for I cannot please myself with such tasks. When I act for His glory, I allow myself a reason for joy: giving joy to the LORD.
God wants us to keep trying and using our talents even when we are not perfect at them. Even when I keep getting stuck in traffic, He always gives my green lights.

  1. Beautifully said, Emily. We need these daily reminders as we go about our daily tasks.
